Wave good bye to the waver!!
The expression ‘it’s not worth the paper it’s written on’ could not be more appropriate for this current topic.
When it comes to skin testing/colour testing the only option you should ever choose or teach anyone is ‘no test, no colour’!
I know we’ve all heard the excuses as to why the client doesn't need a patch test:
“I’ve never had a reaction before”
“I won’t tell anyone”
“I’ve coloured my hair a thousand times”
“I’ve never been allergic to anything in my life”
Or the excuses we tell ourselves:
“It’s only foils, it will barely touch their scalp”
“I’ve done her hair so many times before”
“It’s only bleach”
“I don’t need to test for a toner”
None of these reasons above justify you not carrying out a skin test before a colour treatment! Your insurance will be void and you will you be putting yourself and your client at risk.
Never put yourself at risk, view every client as a potential court case and protect yourself fully and intently!
A waver basically implies that you are admitting that your client could have a reaction to your service, so therefore you are admitting liability!
I don’t know about you but I am not or nor will I ever be signing my name on anything that implies I’m guilty!
So adopt a colour protocol and stick to it! Put procedures in place study them, follow them and don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.
My advise for anyone thinking about ever using a waver is to wave that thought goodbye!!
*You can find a protocol at one of our industries federations for example, NHFB.*
it is better to be safe than sorry
